Concordia 3rd v consett 4

Mark Knott  was up first to play against Peter Tamworth Peter won the first game 15-14 and then 15 -08 Mark came back to win 15-14 but only just as peter played a great drop at 14-14 but Mark was ready and was waiting to play a great finish. The following game had Mark smashing his new racket after trying to get one of Peters shots back from the corner, Peter played well winning the fourth game and winning over all 3-1.
The following game had Keith Grey playing against Steve Toal the first game was won by Steve 15-09 which was very competitive. The following two games were close with Keith losing 15-13 then 15-13 again. Unfortunately Keith’s boast did not help him tonight.
That was Cramlington down two games now and we needed Rob Owen to take the next game which was against Phil Nodding. The first game was won by Phil 15-10 playing some good squash. Rob came back to win the second game 15-12 this was turning in to a real battle. Phil came back to win the next game 15-11, now it was Robs chance to turn on the magic and come back with a great win unfortunately Rob lost again. Rob was now down 2-1 and Dan had a chat with Rob passing on some technical advice before his next game, this looked like Rob was going to come back but due to Rob playing a league game before the team game he lost the final game 15-07. Well done Rob good effort.
Next up was Andy Lawrence he was playing against Colin Ripley, the first game was a good battle we watched Andy win 15-11 this was looking like Andy had it in the bag. Think again Colin won the next three games 15-08, 15-10 and 15-09 “WHAT HAPPENED ANDY” well done Colin great come back.
The final game had Dan Cusack playing against Mike Farley the first game was won by Dan 15-12 then the second 15-13 this was it Dan was going to save Concordia some face, unfortunately Mike had other ideas he won the next game 15-13 then battled to win again 15-13. This set the final game up to be a real battle but Mike was feeling the pressure and Dan came across the stronger player winning 15-06. Well done to both lads this was a good match to watch and a special thanks to Dan who got us a vital 3 points.
Thanks go out to Consett 4 who played some good squash and great team play we are already looking forward to the rematch lads.

Concordia Mens 1st team results

The men's 1st team had a tough start to their 2015/2016 season with their first 3 fixtures against potential promotion prospects.

The opener was away to Northumberland 2, always a team with strength and depth. Concordia could only manage 7 points with wins from Tony Hedley and Simon Long.

The second match, also away, was against a team who came down from the Premier league last season. Even with one or two missing Sunderland 1 were a formidable outfit. Only Ian McAllister, playing at 5 managed a win on gloriously warm courts which suited him. Just 4 team points to show for this Wearside venture.

The next 2 matches were at home where 'cooler' courts might have offered some advantage. Not so against the young University 2 team all of whom hit the ball so very well and covered the court with ease. 7 points was all the team could muster.

The latest fixture offered some respite with 20 points from a slightly older Hexham team who tried to come to terms with not only Concordia's colder courts but a sprinkling of dust to boot. Not our finest hour but we needed those points.

The 4 remaining fixtures on the run up to Christmas offer an opportunity to add some points and get somewhere near mid table although Tynemouth 2 early December will be a big ask.

The fixture list is on the wall at the back of the courts, home games are played on Thursday evenings, come along and support the team.

Dan Cusack was first to play his opponent was Dave Pearson. These two players were very similar and the first game could have gone anyway fortunately Dan won the first game 15 – 13 this was a good game to watch with both players playing some good squash.
The second game again was won by Dan 15 – 11 but Dave had worked Dan and new he was starting to slow. The third game saw Dan go down 14 – 10 and it looked like Dave was about to make his comeback but Dan had other ideas pulling the points back and keeping Dave under pressure 14 – 14 and Dan finished with a lovely drop from the back of the court leaving Dave gutted.
Great games lads and well done to both players it was a good match to watch.
……………………………………..
Youth versus experience sums this contest up nicely. Elliot, playing no.5 in his first team game, at the age of 17 and after only 10 months playing squash was up against the vastly experienced Dave. Nerves understandably played a part in the first game with Dave using this to his advantage, taking the first game 15-10. Elliot settled down in the second game which was very tight, but his youthful athleticism helped him take it 15-13. Elliot’s confidence grew and he took the third game 15-10 before Dave used his experience to try and play a harder game in the 4th, making Elliot cover the full court in each rally and putting him under constant pressure, eventually taking it 15-10 to level the scores. However Elliot wasn’t tiring, and despite Dave’s best efforts with lobs that were smashed back and drops that were well picked up, Elliot played some great shots and went on to take a tight 5th game 15-12. A great introduction to team squash for Elliot and great battling performance from Dave. Excellent game – and well done to both lads.
……………………………………..
Keith playing at 3 today was up against Mike Littlechild, Keith played some good length, but as Mike sussed Keith’s game early on, pulled away into an impressive 5-2 lead then again 8-3. Keith slowly clawed his way back with some good drives and boasts, and managed to take the first game 15-14. In the 2nd game, Keith got into his stride with good consistent lengths which Mike struggled to keep up with, eventually taking the 2nd game 15-6. The 3rd game saw Keith constantly making good recovery shots from deep at the back of the court, Mike wouldn't give up but had no answer to Keith’s tenacity, Keith pulled away quite comfortably taking the match 3-0 winning 15-11 in the 3rd.
………………………………………….
Next up was Rob Owens playing the experienced Norman Hull. Rob, playing at 4, started with his ferocious cross court hard drives into the front corners which had Norman on the back foot early on, the speed and accuracy puzzled Norman, but even after a very close 1st game, Rob won 15-14. Norman took the 2nd game 15-10 with some very accurate drop shots that Rob had no answer to. Rob got back into his stride in the 3rd taking it 15-10. The 4th game was an entertaining encounter with both players not giving much away, the pace of the game taking its toll on both players who were both starting to make the odd mistake. Rob started to make good on his well-disguised drops and boasts which eventually out foxed Norman, Rob took the 4th game 15-11 taking the match 3-1.
…………………………………………..
Last match of the night was Mark Knott v Keith Langley. Could Mark give Cramlington 3rd a clean sweep?
The match started at full pelt and never really slowed down!  After an entertaining and close first game, Mark lost 15-13.  In the second Mark started getting his eye in and his cross court drop shots started working, helping him to win the second comfortably 15-7.  The third game was a real battle with Keith eventually winning out 15-11.  The fourth game was also tight but Keith took it (and the match) 15-12.

An entertaining match played in Great Spirit.

Tonight saw Elliot Harrison standing in at 5 for the 3rd team, and he didn't disappoint, his encounter with Dave Robertson produced an entertaining match which Elliot won 3-2.
Well done Elliot
Dan commented our game strategy tonight was to mix up our team with youth, experience and good looks,

Concordia 3 Vs Walker 1

The first game of the night was Mark Knott Playing at position 4 his opponent was Nick Humphrey. All three games were taken by Mark without any real pressure this was not to say Mark was playing well, just Nick was not.

Next up was Joe race playing at position 1 his opponent was Pete Downs. This was set to be a good match as Pete was fit and a good all round player. The first game was won by Joe 15 – 09 then he won the second 15 – 11 when everyone thought Joe was running away with the match Pete came back to win 15 – 14 pressure was on now and Joe did not let us down winning 15 – 06 this was a good game to watch, well done lads.

Next was Keith Grey playing at position 5 his opponent was Adam Perrin these two players had played each other before and Keith read the game well playing good length and putting Adam under pressure from the beginning, Keith dominated this match winning 3 – 0 but well done Adam for putting up a good battle.

The next game was Dan Cusack playing at position 3 he was playing Steve Drummond. The first game was won by Steve who put Dan under pressure playing some clever little drop shots. The next game was taken by Dan winning 15 – 07 and playing sensible squash. The next two games were won by Dan giving him a positive 3 – 1 win. Well done to both players working hard and playing some entertaining squash.

The final game was Gary Storey playing at position 2 his opponent Fiona McFarlane. This was going to be a good match to watch as both players could move around the court well and were both really fit players. The first game was taken by Fiona 15 – 11 Gary had to knuckle down and play some good squash he did not let us down winning the next three games. The final score was 3 -1, this was a fantastic match to watch and both players should be congratulated for playing really entertaining squash.

Well done Walker and good luck next season.

Great finish to the season for Concordia 3 and well done for finishing second in the league.

The next match was played by Keith Grey and Joe Anderson who were playing at position five Joe was 14 and showed he had been getting some good coaching hitting the ball really well in the warm up. Keith won the first game 15 – 06 then 15 – 05 we all thought it was going to be over quickly but Joe had other ideas making Keith fight for his final win 15 – 10 well done lads a good game.

Concordia won over all taking the 20 points this now puts Concordia 3 second in the league and in a great position to push for promotion in the New Year.

A big thank you goes to Peter Irlam and Keith Grey who have both been outstanding over the first part of the season and will still be involved as reserves for the second part giving room for Joe Race and Gary Storey to step up to the mark and prove why they should be playing regular team squash. “Thanks again Lads” Hope you all have a happy Xmas and New Year.

PS Don’t drink too much over the Xmas we play again on the 6th

First up was Mark Knott playing at number 3 he was playing against Peter Brown The first game was a little hitty missy Mark eventually winning 15 – 10 the next game was won by Peter winning 15 -8 The third game was in the bag mark winning comfortably 15 -5 the fourth game was difficult with both players playing well at 14 -14 Peter managed to win with a nick which made the final game interesting. Now at 2 -2 mark pushed on and managed to steal the final game 15 -10 first win for Concordia but Mark has the injury’s to prove he was up against a good player.

Next up was Peter Irlam playing at number 4 he was playing Matt Wadington the first game was a close game with both players working hard and playing some good squash. Peter managed to take the final point to win the first game 15 -14. The next game was very similar but Peter’s fitness was beginning to show the difference between the two players Peter winning again 15 -13 the last game was all over very quickly Peter taking it without any real pressure 15 -6. Well played Peter some good squash.

The next players up were Dan Cusack playing at number 2 and Gary Callum. Dan was playing some good squash and comfortably took the first game 15 -4 The second game was very similar Dan not letting up and punishing Gary with some excellent squash the second game was won by Dan 10-15. This game was in the bag but Gary had other ideas as he took the third game 15 – 7 showing Dan that he could not relax the fourth game was won by Dan 15 – 10 but Gary showed he was not going to be beaten easily. Well done Dan some good squash being played.

The next game was between Keith Grey playing at number 5 and Andy Jukes the first game was won by Andy 15 -14 and both players played well although Keith was playing a hard hitting game not his normal play. The second game was won again by Andy winning 15 – 10 but Keith played a lot better playing some great shots. The final game was won by Andy 15 -12 although Keith was beaten 3 -0 he played some good squash unfortunately he was beaten on the night by a better player. Good games to watch lads well done.

The final game was played by Andy Lawrence playing at number 1 and Ramon Carrillo. Andy took the first game 15 -10 playing some excellent squash which was very exciting to watch. The second game again was won by Andy 15 -10 but the score does not justify how well Andy was playing this was the best squash I have watched Andy play all season unfortunately for Ramon. The final game was taken again by Andy winning 15 -8.This was a great match to watch well done both players.

First up was Rob Owen playing at number 4 he was playing John Glenwright this was a good match to watch Rob leading 15 -10 then John coming back winning 13 -15. Rob was in control playing some great squash taking the third game 15 – 06 then winning the final game 15 -10. Both players played well demonstrating some good squash skills.

Next up was Keith Grey who was playing Tony Hackney the first game was taken by Tony 15 -05 after Keith decide to play his boasting game, after having a little chat with Ian McAllister the tide turned and Keith came back to win the next game 15 – 14 playing good length. The next game was taken by Tony who was playing well making Keith run and forcing him to boast from the back wall. Again Keith fought his way back in this match winning 15 – 14.  The final game was won by Tony 15 -13 but Keith made him work for this win. Well done both lads.

Now came the game of the night full of controversy and heated discussion with the marker. Dan Cusack was playing Barry Turnbull both players were playing well Dan taking the first game 15 -13. The second game had its moments as Barry and Dan both having a heated discussion with the marker at 14 -14 to lose with a stroke sucks. Sorry Barry. The final game had just as much excitement as Barry was wanting to lynch the marker by this point both players worked hard but Dan came through in the end to win 15 -12 after a few controversial decisions this was still a good match to watch. Well done lads.

Next up was our new player Gary Storey who was a little shell shocked at the start of the match losing 15 – 12 to Craig Myers but the game was good to watch both players making some good shots. It was time to watch Gary play his normal high standard of squash playing good length and some great drops forcing Craig in to the corner only to make a perfect drop to the front. Gary won the next three games 15 – 11, 15 – 08 and finally 15 – 10.

The overall match was now won by Concordia 3 but Connor Snaith and Andy Lawrence looked like a match not to miss and they did not let us down both players working hard and hitting great shots around the court it was Andy who took the first game 15 – 11 only to see Connor come back with some great squash winning 15 – 10 then 15 -07 and finally 15 – 08 this was a good match to watch well done to both players on some excellent squash.

Great results Concordia 3 keep up the good work lads.

CONCORDIA 3 vs.  NORTHUMBERLAND 6

First to play was Gary Storey who was playing at number 3 his  opponent was Stephen Hierons, Gary played his normal game putting himself all  over the court chasing every ball as this was Gary’s first team game he played  well although Stephen played well during the first game winning 15-10 Gary  played some good squash but both players made quite a few mistakes during the  games, at the end of the match Gary managed a good win 3-1 well done to both  lads.

Next to play was Peter Irlam and Scott Little the first game was  won by Peter playing some good squash and winning 15-3 putting Scott under pressure but Scott was an experienced player and came back strong to win the  second game 15-10 this was turning out to be a good battle peter won the third  game 15-11 and stayed strong to take the match 15-8 in his final game this was  a good game to watch well done to both
players.

Next up was Mark Knott and Chris Hierons this was expected to be  a good game to watch with Mark playing one of the younger players but Mark  played some sensible squash playing some tricky shots and frustrating his  opponent in to making some forced errors. It was all over after a very short  time leaving Chris beaten 3 -0 let’s see if Chris can have his revenge in the  return match.

Next to play was Dan Cusack his opponent again was a young man  Jonathon Head This was very similar to the last game Dan playing some good solid  squash but playing some trick shots that left Jonathon wondering how to deal  with Dan. It was all over after a short period ending 3 -0 to Dan well done to  both players.

The final game was played by our number 1 player Andy Lawrence  who was against Marcus Allsop this game looked like it was going to be a good  match to watch and we weren’t disappointed Andy won the first game 15 -13 then  the second 15 -13 again Marcus was an experienced player and came back to win  the next two games 15 -14 and again 15 -14 the final game was set to be a hard  trying game but Andy dug deep and overcome to win 15 -8 this was a great match  to watch and both players deserve a pat on the back for playing some great  rally’s.

Well done Concordia 3 on a great start to the new  season.

Andy vs Marcus 15-13, 15-13, 14-15, 14-15,  15-8

CONCORDIA 3 V CHESTER LE STREET 3

13/2/2014

First up was Paul Blakey who was playing Keith Langley  unfortunately Paul had previously played a league game so this was always going  to be a difficult game. Paul lost the first game 8 - 15 the second game Paul  had the game in the bag but in his own words was out of sorts losing 12 - 15
Paul did well in the third but was beaten by a better player with a final score  of 13 - 15 well done to Keith & Paul for an entertaining  game.

Next up was Keith Grey playing against Paul Felton the first game  ended 9 - 15 and Keith looked a little shocked how quick it was all over, Paul  played some good shots and had Keith digging deep to stay in the game. The  second game was very similar ending 8 - 15 with Keith trying to play some good  length but struggling to keep the ball close to the wall. The final game was  entertaining and very competitive Keith was playing better and Paul starting to  make mistakes but unfortunately Keith lost to a better player in the end 12  -15.

This put Chester le St ahead two games next was the Captain Mark Knott who was playing Mike Littlechild, Mark was carrying an injury in to the  game and new if Mike realized he was struggling to run then the games would be  over very quickly. The first game was won by Mike 13 -15 this was now set up for  a good second game and Mark & Mike didn’t let us down the game could have
gone either way but Mike won the second 14 -15 the third saw Mark ahead 7 -3 but  Mike using his experience managed to get himself back in to the game after an  exciting climax the game ended 14 -15 and Chester lee St had won another match  well done to Mike.

Next to play was Dan Cusack who was playing at number 1 his opponent was Andy Fitzpatrick both players played well but Andy showed his  superiority in the first game winning 7 -15 the second game saw Andy put on the  pressure and cause Dan to pick up his game but Andy was just too good and Dan  lost 4 -15 the third was very quick and painless for Dan as Andy smashed home  with a 5 -15 win giving Chester Le St another match win. (May be smashed was a  bit strong)

Our final game was with Andy Lawrence and Dave Harrison Andy  started the first game struggling to stay with Dave who was playing some good  squash the first game ended 9 -15 after Andy had the classic team talk and  boost of confidence he played the second game a lot better but still was beaten  11 -15 this looked like it was all over but Andy dug deep and won Concordia 3s  first game against Chester Le St winning 15 -14 this looked like it was the  turning point for Andy to go on and win our first match unfortunately he lost  the next 5 -15 leaving the rest of the team stunned as to what had just  happened.

Well done to Chester Le St and good luck with the rest of the  season lads.

Team News up to 15th November 2013

15/11/2013

Since the last bulletin all 3 men’s team have had a busy month with all the lads playing at least 3
matches. In actual fact the 1st team have played 4 matches starting with a return to Ashbrook to play their much stronger 1st team.
It was a 5-0 defeat with the only notable highlight seeing Peter Mcleod playing against Tony Hedley. No one wanted to see Tony get beat but Peter Mcleod played almost exhibition squash on a red hot court. Truly a class act and a joy to watch.
Mark Livingstone stood in at 5 to  replace an absent Ian Morton and gave good account of himself gaining I of the  only 2 pts bagged that night.

The losing run continued with a home defeat to Northern 4-1, only Tony Hedley winning his game. Andy Dolan was up against a 14 year old Michael Mattimore who is surely a star for the future,
losing 3-0.

Away to Tynemouth on bonfire night added to the misery when the 1st’s lost 4-1, Andy Dolan collecting 3 pts and the Morton brothers a brace each. 7 points for the match just wasn’t enough.

Their latest match turned thing  around. At home against Eldon Leisure and on warmer home courts for the first time, things had to get better. Eldon are bottom of the league and it was
essential that the team scored well in this game. All came good with a 5-0 win,  an excellent come back from Ian Morton to win 3-2 after being 0-2 down holding  his nerve at 10 all in the third was a determined effort.

The 1st’s have two tough games to play before the Christmas break, the next home game on Thursday 5th December against Ashington.

After a 2 week break and on a  Saturday afternoon the 2nd team travelled to Northumberland 7
(Jesmond) to play their juniors, all no doubt destined to be superstars. Coached  from tots, they don‘t know how to play badly. Only Steve Goldie, technically  proficient himself and Mark Livingstone with his power play managed to win their  games, Dave Hall, Nick Fecitt and Rory Whaling were simply out squashed.  2-3 on the day with 8pts onto their  league tally, no disgrace.

A home game to Eldon Leisure 3 was  next up. This match got off to a bad start with Steve Goldie unavailable at the  last minute. (a car crash no less, fortunately no one was  injured)
Thanks to a last minute call to  Bruno Gaultier, the team remained at full strength.
The match was an evenly fought  contest but for Bruno’s opponent who has had much previous experience at a higher level. Milo McKenzie was his name, Bruno v Milo, sounds more like a
boxing bout. Good squash but Milo was just too strong.
A good effort also from Dave Hall  and Nick Fecitt however they too lost to good opponents.
At  number 1 Mark Livingstone won yet again, playing another Mark. Not easy for the marker. I see their number 2 is  also called Mark so the away fixture next half could be Mark v Mark, marked by
Mark.

2nd team captain has  asked me to mention a sterling effort by Dave Hall who made an excellent job of  marking what was a difficult match on the night with a graceless opponent who
questioned much of the proceedings. It’s a shame to report such goings on but  that’s team squash for you.

On the back of 2 defeats, the 2nd’s came good with a win away from home at Ashington on
6th November.
Nick Fecitt, Rory Whaling and Steve  Goldie secured the points.
A rare defeat for Mark Livingstone  and Dave Hall up against a very strong player sums up the night simply enough.  16 points all the same, keeps them just above mid table.

The men’s 3rd team, new  to the Northumbria league this season have got off to a promising start but without a win.

Their last 3 matches were somewhat  unusual, two home games to Dunston (they have 2 teams in the same league) and an  odd away fixture at Walker who have a very unique court set  up.
Dunston 4 were the first visitors  and the match was a good contest. Keith Grey and Paul Blakely lost their games  but only by the narrowest of margins, both gaining 2 points each for the  team.

Andy Lawrence showed his resilience coming back from behind to win a marathon match, 15-12 in the 5th.  Great effort.

Dan Cussack won his game 3-1 and  with the match at 2-2 it was up to the captain Mark Knott to show his metal.  This he did and won 3-0 to secure the 3rd team’s first victory of the  season.

In between the Dunston sandwich was the trip to Walker where viewing the court proceedings was from either a side  wall window or a door at the back of the court.

Marking the game was carried out  via a side window adjoining a library !. I supposed any disputed decisions could  be checked out quickly enough in the reference section under ’Rules of Squash’
by Y.A. Lett.
Despite the quirky set up all 5  players won their games for a resounding 20 points to 3 victory.

Their latest match, the second of  the Dunston visitors, as expected, was always going to be tough. This was  Dunston 3 and likely to be stronger than Dunston 4. As it proved.

Andy Lawrence battled to gain 2  points for the team and a good win by Peter Irlam playing at 5 added 3 points to  the tally.

A 1-4 defeat but a good effort all  the same. The lads are looking forward to the rematch at the end of February.

Check  the fixtures list for future home games and come along to support our teams. All  games start at 6.40pm and are played on a Wednesday or  Thursday.
